It's just a matter of controlling the group of people they give prizes to, and to a lesser extent, maturity within the GvG's. That's also part of the reason why a lot of guilds are usually 16+ or 18+, because they do not want to risk dealing with immature 13 year olds. However, if you act mature enough, guilds will still take you.

As to why they set a specific age as 16 (I know you 15 year old people are only half a year away), that's how it goes with everything. The legal driving age in America is 16, and they are for the most part going to be strict about it. Someone has to set a clear age for participation, or before you know it 9 year olds are going to be on the road. How safe will you feel then? And for those of you that argue that 15 is only 1 year away from 16, if the age is set at 15, then the 14 year olds will complain how it is only one year away, etc.

lol first off never lie about your age that is one of the worst things u could do and it could lead into legal issues. not to mention the parental consent u have to have. u can git into top guilds still one good thing to do is to start up one with your friends and if they disband but u were good then ude have fame to join another one. and yes their are guilds without age restrictions. but ur best bet is to chillax until u hit 16 trust me it ain't that bad.

Most guilds have a 16+ requirement to recruit is mostly for maturity environment in guild I believe. The legal age 16+ for real life prize in tournament is only minimal reason because only true top guilds, which has ability to win a tournament will care about it.
And of course you can join every tournament by saying you are 16+ in the email sent to ANet. There is no way they can check if you lie or not unless you win the tournament and get prize in real life.

I think it's completely foolish but you gotta listen to the rules. I know in the past some of my younger friends competed in some CS:S Tournaments being under 16, they claimed their prizes and played without being questioned... They also had parental consent

. But then again, this isn't CS:S, I just thought I would make a quick correlation between the two.

I am also very concerned about this. I am in a top 500 guild so it would be at least reasonable for us to join the tournament. We have at least two 15 year olds in our core team (me included) so we didnt. Now, this wasnt that big of a disappointment seeing as it was only one tournament and we werent gunna win anyway :P.

What I am very concerned about is when they start the daily tournament setup. Will you have to be 16 to enter into these? Will this shut out people less than 16 years of age from gvging? Hopefully I will be 16 by that time but that might mean no gvg for a lot of people and I dont want to be left out because of my age. I would rather be left out for my skill (or lack thereof).

Don't worry. By the time they will finally actually implement the AT's the entire guild wars population will be 34
